40 productsBuoyancy aids and lifejackets, mainly from Spinlock, plus dinghy safety kit. Know the difference before buying. A buoyancy aid (50N) is a foam vest that helps a conscious swimmer stay afloat while leaving full freedom to move — the standard for dinghy sailing, where a swim is routine. A lifejacket (150N and up, usually gas-inflated) is designed to turn an unconscious wearer face-up, and is what you want for coastal and offshore sailing, worn with the crotch strap done up. Buoyancy aids should fit snug enough that they cannot ride up past your ears when you pull the shoulders. Inflatable lifejackets need an annual service — check the cylinder and firing mechanism, not just the fabric.
